Navigating Transgender Representation ZINE

"Navigating Transgender Representations in Contemporary Lens-based Art" is a zine and short essay written (and self-published) by us at Gender 404.

This zine reflects upon and critiques the use of transgender bodies in photographic artworks by distinguishing systems of fetishization, misrepresentation and myopic theorizations. The essay provides a reconstructive approach to conceptualize how transgender bodies appear in contemporary lens-based art, and offers a manifesto in hopes of supporting more nuanced forms of representation moving forward.

This zine is a resource made for everyone. Artist or viewer. Trans or cis. This zine offers a tangible starting point for creating positive visual representations of transgender persons and their bodies.
